Envivio Broadcast Media Suite

Create, Serve, And Play MPEG-4 Content

Envivio's Broadcast Media Suite is a collection of tools for the creation, delivery, and PC playback of MPEG-4 compatible streaming content. Included in the suite are the Envivio Streaming Server, Envivio Live Broadcaster, Envivio Encoding Station, EnvivioTV (player plug-ins), and the Envivio Broadcast Studio. The individual tools are available primarily for Windows platforms, with the Streaming Server also offering Linux support.

The Envivio Streaming Server (ESS) supports the streamed delivery of ISO compliant MP4 files (regardless of the platform used to create the files). Up to 500 concurrent broadband connections are supported (dependent on hardware and bandwidth constraints, of course), with the server able to handle both unicast and multicast streaming using RTP, RTSP, or RTCP, over UDP or HTTP tunneling.

Envivio Live Broadcaster (ELB) provides real-time MPEG-4 encoding from live audio/video sources. The encoder produces "TV-like" video at broadcast rates from 500Kbps to 1Mbps; streams data using RTP and RTCP over UDP; and is provided in both Enterprise and Broadcast editions.

Envivio Encoding Station (EES) provides a means for the conversion of existing Audio/Video files to the MPEG-4 format for subsequent streaming. EES produces an encoded Audio stream, Video stream, and BIFS Stream (scene descriptions) for reconstructing the media display from the audio and video. EES accepts uncompressed AVI, MOV, and MPEG-1 video files and AIFC, AIFF, AU, uncompressed PCM, MP3, and WAV files for input and exports the MP4 files with optional RTP hinting.

The EnvivioTV (ETV) players allow for the playback of MPEG-4 content on the end-user's PC. The ETV plug-ins work in conjunction with the user's existing media player, with plug-ins available for RealNetwork's RealOne player, Apple's QuickTime, and, most recently, the Windows Media Player. A customizable, standalone ETV player is also available for OEMs (set top boxes, etc.).

Finally, the Envivio Broadcast Studio (EBS) is intended for post-production (i.e., import, edit, preview, encoding) media development teams. It includes extended import support for graphics formats such as Flash, Photoshop, GIF, and JPEG; as well as timeline and object synchronization tools. EBS is listed on the vendor's Web site as "available soon."
