CREDANT Protector

Enforces Endpoint Protection Policies By Domain, Computer, User, Group

A result of collaboration between CREDANT Technologies and Safend, CREDANT Protector provides organizations with policy-based lockdown capabilities for corporate endpoints; including the ability to detect and block file transfers to external devices by type as well as prevent the transmission of such data over wireless interfaces. The platform consists of a central server which is accessed via a management console (both of these require Windows XP Pro/Server 2003), and individual agents (Windows XP Pro/Vista) that are installed directly on the endpoints themselves. Communications between the components are all encrypted; and anti-tampering features protect the policy files themselves, including the possibility of locking down the endpoint if tampering is detected.

Data and external device access policies can be defined by domain, group, computer, or user; with both Active Directory and eDirectory integration supported. Among the possible definitions are the allowing, restricting or blocking of file transfers by file type to devices, the blocking of individual devices by device, type, or serial number, and WiFi restrictions by MAC Address, SSID, or network security level. The vendor notes that multiple device and network connections and storage devices are recognized and supported by the platform; including USB, FireWire, Bluetooth, WiFi, CD/DVD, and Tape drives, to name a few.

Auditing and alerting capabilities of the platform enable administrators to monitor overall data movement without necessarily restricting it. Alerting methods include E-mail, SNMP, syslog, Windows Event Viewer, popup messages, and custom scripts.

Other features of the platform include anti-bridging controls (when an endpoint is connected to the corporate network it can be prevented from establishing a connection to any other network via the blocking of WiFi, Bluetooth, modems, or IrDA); support for the encryption of data stored on CDs or DVDs; built-in policy configurations to support regulatory standards; an anti-hardware keylogger; and support for U3/autorun controls (enabling U3 drives to be used as regular drives without autorun features).

CREDANT Protector is available now, with pricing starting at $32 per license for 100 licenses. Volume discounts are available.
